Hi Jim,
I'll start with the last part first. Pat Buchanan has expressed a lot of views that I've agreed with through the years (I even voted for him in the 1992 presidential primary) but his philosophy on American isolationism isn't one of them. That article (I read the whole thing) is an extension of his isolationist beliefs pertaining to the world today. I expected a tome full of rhetoric, and when the first three words of the article were "The War Party", my expectations were met. ....and I find that some of the conclusions he arrives at are similar to those of Moore. That makes for a pair of strange bedfellows!
As to a "significant" relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda that you refer to in the 9/11 commission report, I don't consider any friendly relationship between a government and Al Qaeda to be insignificant.
As to a surgical strikes to take out Saddam and his regime. There's no way that would have been feasible. That, quite frankly, would have been a Clinton solution. Lob a couple bombs and problem solved. Except we didn't know for sure where the elements of the regime were at the time, and we are still hunting some of them down to this day!
Enough politics for tonight, I'm going to go play some poker online....
Will I see you in Reno this weekend? It's been a couple years...
Take good care,
Bob
