First, let me say I joined the Slabfree Club a long time ago and I still agree very strongly with everything in the pledge. I hesitate to write this because I don't want to be thought of as condoning slabbing in any way.
However, considering the fact that this buyer is not a member, not a Slabfree member and isn't SELLING slabs, do we really have the right to call him up and ask him why he bought something? I'm speaking rhetorically--I know we have the RIGHT to ask anybody about anything.
But, don't individuals have the freedom to do what we want to in this country? Sure slabbing is bad for the chip collecting hobby, but then again so are fantasy chips on a lesser level. Are we going to start telephoning buyers of fantasy chips and making sure they understand what they're buying?
I agree that we all feel a duty to protect the hobby from slabbing, but where do we draw the line between protecting the hobby and meddling in somebody elses private business?
Personally, I think if we all follow the letter of the Slabfree pledge and let our purchasing dollars do the talking, we'll keep slabbing from gaining a foothold in chip collecting.
Just some food for thought... Now, ready, aim, fire!
I will NOT have any slabbed chip in my collection.
I will NOT buy ANY chip from any dealer who sells slabbed chips.
I will NOT buy ANY chip from any dealer who grades chips for a slabbing service.
I will NOT do business of any kind with any dealer who participates in any way in the slabbing of chips.
