... per se that constitute the problem, Trav. The real problem is that some people can't discuss politics in a civil manner.
A few days ago, I posted a message which IMO was civil, though admittedly quite critical of George Bush:
http://www.thechipboard.com/cgi-bin/tcb/tcb.pl?read=357377
In response, I received an email from someone who identified himself as a club member, which reads in full (to get past Greg's naughty word censor, I have modified the original, which was uncensored):
>> Hey A$$hole, As for your post on the chipboard
>> "I think George Bush is the worst and arguably the
>> most dangerous president of the last 100 years."
>> F--- you!
To my knowledge, I do not know and had not previously had any contact or conversation with this person.
I replied:
>> Thank you for your invitation to engage in sexual relations, (name omitted).
>> Two problems, though: One, I don't know you well enough yet; and
>> Two, I prefer women anyway. So, I'm afraid I'll have pass on your offer.
>> However, I am impressed by the eloquence and intellectual capacity
>> expressed in your email. Absolutely brilliant, linking the terms
>> "@$$hole" and "f--- you" in same messsage. I can't imagine why
>> no one has ever thought of that before.
>> In fact, it's such a stunningly perceptive and innovative concept,
>> I don't understand why you sent it privately rather than posting
>> it on the ChipBoard so that everyone could appreciate and enjoy
>> your wisdom and insight.
>> Maybe I'll do it for you.
Notwithstanding that exchange, I continue to believe that it IS possible for most of us to have a civil discussion of political issues.
