A few years ago there was such a thread. It was one of those about all the hoarding and other activities that some people would engage in that were percieved to be unfair to the average collectors. As I recall the topic may have started with the suggestion that certain people, or as I recall, a certain person was accused of cornering the market on a low number release of chips. That person denied up and down that he had purchased that many chips. Assertions were made that the people who engaged in that practice would trickle out their supplies so slowly that it would give an ILLUSION that the chips were in very rare supplies. Ebay ads even touted them as Rare or Hard to Come by. Desperate collectors would pay huge amounts believing that there weren't enough to go around.
It was mentioned in a sub topic that some people would even take a percentage of the chips that they controlled and deface them in ways to make the few that they had that were MINT and Pristine, that much more valuable. They could take the common defaced chips back to the cage or use them at tables and get their innitial investment back. Then, in the end, they would control the larger percentage of the truely desirable chips that they could sell for HUGE premiums.
I am not trying to make any specific statements to any specific individuals and hope I didn't rub anyone the wrong way. This is just my recallection of the thread that, like I said, seemed to be posted a LOOOOONG time ago.
