a slot joint (no chips) at 3049 Las Vegas Blvd. from 1962 to 1980. Then it became Big Red's, Peppermill, CBS Sportsworld Casino, then Sportsworld Casino, and now is a Korean Bar-b-que (I think...or it was last year anyway). Mr. Sy's sat between a liquor store and Fredrick's of Hollywood.
Mr. Sy's had lots of fun books around, with a coupon for a 39 Pennsylvania beef stew dinner. The lunch counter was small, so there would be people waiting and they'd call "number 42 for the beef stew dinner" over the loudspeaker. The place was filled with free-rolling wild Indian slots, and you could hear the bells clanging all the way across the street, at the Stardust.
No, I've never been there, but my husband has.
I don't know about the value of the free play tokens, probably $3-$5. We have a few of the fun books, and an ashtray from the joint.
