Are you certain about the reference to air conditioners in the 5th sentence?

I thought air conditioning (also known as air cooling) was becoming fairly common at the commercial level from the mid 1930s through the mid '40s (when the above-mentioned Grandma was born), especially in movie theaters and a few downtown Las Vegas hotels and casinos... but as Dennis Miller used to say, "that's just my opinion and I could be wrong."
