In my opinion, the question of potential for increase in value of a chip is based on supply and demand. If there are very few known of a cancelled chip, its value will increase just as will any scarce chip. If there many more cancelled than uncancelled known of a particular chip, the original will obviously appreciate more with time.
Some of the drilled $20's from Harolds Club are going to appreciate simply because there are only one or two known undrilled so if you want one, you have to buy the one with the hole. Sometimes you have to take a hole AND a notch [g].
