I think this chip is sure an odd one. I'm going to take a wild stab and speculate that Boreland might have made this chip as maybe a sample or to maybe testing the mold? Perhaps as check on the color?

Then...on the other hand, maybe he had a sense of humor and thought "I'll just put this one oddball chip out and laugh my ass off when somebody discovers it and tries to figure it out"

He probably thought, "if that crazy Gene Trimble gets a hold of it, he'll be pulling his hair out trying to make sense of it"
