The Silver Slipper $5000 is one of 13 Borland high-denomination commemoratives that were originally produced as 'pie' chips. After the clay-blanking mold for pies was broken, subsequent orders for eight of them were made with chips of the same color but with inserts. This is how Bill explained it to me at the store when I bought mine, anyway. The original pie chips are definitely scarce; in particular these six:
- Mint $1000 brown/green
- El Rancho Vegas $5000 orange/brown
- Thunderbird $1000 pink/blue
- Thunderbird $5000 blue/mustard
- Silver Slipper $1000 pink/black
- Pussy Cat a Go-Go $1000 pink/cream.
The two Jolly Trolly errors are the scarcest of all the Borland chips. I still don't have them. Since they were not attractive colored inlays, my guess is Bill sold very few and they ended up wholesaled to Gamblers General after his inventory was liquidated. Somebody probably bought them for home play and doesn't realize what they are.
