A few days back there was a slabbed chip on eBay and quite a few people were in an uproar about it's sale. I even got the feeling that if an individual bought a slabbed chip (this one or any other one), that members of the anti-slabbing club would boycott those other individuals for dealing in slabbed chips (sellers and buyers).
I personally don't own any slabbed chips but I do feel they have some collectiblity factor and wouldn't mind having at least one example in my collection. I was a little shocked to find out that I could be exiled by some club members if I choose to purchase it. (by the way, I don't own any slabbed chips).
I guess the fear is that if we got excited about any slabbed chip, that a slabbing company would then be interested in our hobby. It is my understanding that this is probably a low chance indeed at this point in time...
But now we have a thread about collecting fake and/or reproduction chips produced by individual(s) that have caused our hobby harm. Yet it appears that collecting, trading, and dealing these chips is totally acceptable???
Doesn't any interest in these fake chips also provide fuel/motivation to those who still choose to harm our hobby by producing fakes, reproductions and/or repaired chips?
I was hoping someone might be able to help me understand the difference between the two situations?
