IMO, the only way to avoid them, is to have your purchases Xrayed. Its not only Z chips that are being repaired. Its profitable to repair a $150 chip and make money. Get a written guarentee from the seller and take it to your friendly dentist.

I quit buying NV chips several years ago. 1,000's have been repaired.
