I have built a frame that is suspended from the ceiling about 18" from the wall, with flourescent lighting behind that illuminates the slot glass when the wall switch is turned on.

I also have several unlighted slot glass panels that are mounted top & bottom in 1/4" aluminum channel strips, 8' long, fastened to the wall with mirror-frame clips which are available at Home Depot or Loews that works very well.
