Hole 1. It was assumed first ball was out of bounds (not necessarily lost). It is automatically provisional until I have played a shot from past the point where the first ball was thought to have come to rest. Its a quirk in the rules - here is the opposite scenario which is another quirk - I hit a ball into thick rough. Someone finds it. Its unplayable and I dont fancy the options of where to play my next shot from. I 'refuse' to identify the ball as mine, declare it lost and play another from the tee. I remembered Ian Woosnam doing it in the world matchplay years ago.
Hole 3. I did not 'complete the hole' before I realised my mistake.
