Back when I first started playing in card rooms I saw a lot of folk putting their burning cigarettes on the top of a stack of chips--even when the club made ashtrays available. I think it is a part of the gambler's history; hard drinking; hard smoking; pinching the cagarette, cigar & cigarillo girl; etc. So I don't mind a burnt chip.
