I have to ruluctantly agree that on balance he was a good govenor. However, he led the fight that closed Southern State Teachers College in Springfield and remade it into a state prison. (Springfield was where I grew up and where my grand parents were college presidents in the '30s). One of the halls was named for my Grandfather, Theron A. Harmon, but it is now behind barbed wires and houses sexual offenders. So I have no fondness for the man.
