Your comment, "There is nothing so futile as regret" is a two edge sword. What about the regret that comes from accidental shootings? For every instance you give us where a gun is used for defense there is another where it is misused for tragic outcome. The ideal solution is to do everything possible to assure that guns are only in the hands of well trained responsible adults. Anything else is only dancing around the issue.
