Last Time I was In Edmonton...

I found this silly picture of the polar bear and liked it alot and it put me in mind of that kind of weather and a couple of "cool" (sorry! vbg ) chips.

Ever been to Edmonton? About 1000 miles north of my home in Portland, OR. Used to go trucking up there a bit and it always put me in mind of the TV show "Dallas" the way this city of over 600,000 just rises out of the Canandian prairie. Lots of agriculture and even though we did make a delivery to a refinery there, it seems a lot of the Canandian petroleum is sitting in the ground under capped wells just waiting... They don't like any nasty trucks going through the heart of the city so's we'd have to head west at the edge of town on Yellowhead Dr. which would go past the city park with the ski run in it and past the West Edmonton Mall (The Largest Mall In I-forget-what) where one of these chips came from. Pretty soon, you'd be heading north to Whitemudd (That's a highway.) where we'd deliver to a big chemical plant or Whitemudd your way east on the upper edge of the city. Takes close to an hour to skirt the city this way. The last trip I made to Edmonton was one of those trips you NEVER forget but I'll leave that part out unless you're really into cryogenic truckin' and such. grin It was - 20 degrees. If I figured right at the time, it struck me that - 20 below 0 was the same in both Celcius and Farenheit. Eyeball freezing cold in other words. Luckily, it was so cold that the snow wouldn't stick to anything so even polar bears weren't having any trouble getting around. Got our load of LOX in nearby Fort Saskatchewan and headed south to warmer climes, after all, it was -10 in Calgary.

Edmonton is actually very pretty in the summertime and the weather won't kill you during these months. The folks that live up this way are pretty cool (!) too but I've seen them bareheaded and tennis shoed anytime of the year...go figure. Hope you liked the picture, the chips and the story! vbg
