Ron asked: One last note, I find it strange that an owner of card room (Ruben Marquez) can play cards in their own card rooms. Is this common practice in California?
Yes it is Ron. In many cases, this is the only way the small card room owner can make it--by filling in as a prop.
But getting back to our "perfect" card rooms. It is just like the Black Man has no problem with calling himself or others in his race a "N-----", but heaven have mercy for a white man to do so.
Between us "locals" we demonize most all these card rooms for one reason or another all the time--maybe the specials are not to our liking, or the drop is too much, or whatever, but the rooms are ours. I hope you can understand that and take my comment as just another bit of my dry humor.
But I stand by my statment that as far as I know, no problem has ever occurred in or around these card rooms due to their location. Some of these one or two table card rooms are frequented by young sexy 20 year olds as well as mature women carrying medicare cards and I doubt either type would frequent these place if it wern't safe to do so--even in this seedy side of town known as Rancho Cordovo.
On the other hand, I know personally of killings, robberies, people being followed home after big winnings at clubs (including dealers,) drug activities at all the Casinos in Gardena (where they have heavy security and many tables.)
And as far as being safer in Las Vegas or Reno, must I really take the time out to search the internet to report on all the police blotter records of crimes in those cities? How about the ones not even reported but are taken care of by the internal security of those places.
Wake up, young fellow. Things are not as they seem to be on the surface.
But being from Kansas City, I might agree with you about your local problems if what I remember reading in the past regarding the illegal clubs in the mid-west.
Keep in mind that we now have the "Terminator" in our city and I don't think too many people want to fool around with him.
Ok, bottom line. Sure, these small card clubs in this area are nothing to brag about but we do have access to the Reno casinos which is only 2 hours away, but in truth, the local poker games we have here are better. If you ever return to the area, you have an open invitation to get a hold of either of us and we will show you a safe good time.
