We ate at the coffee shop where they have the steak and lobster special. I am pretty sure that the food didn't make me sick since everyone around here has had it recently.

The best time to get bumped is when everyone else is also travelling. Best day is Wed. before Thanksgiving but be sure to book early. Another way is to ask the gate agent when (and to where)they bump the most people and you will probably get a good answer. I am sure that we have had over $10,000 in free travel since starting the bump game 20 years ago - in fact most of our travel is free. We had one trip for 4 people where we got $3400 in certificates since we got bumped 3 times and arived a day late. Other times I get in an hour late. As long as you have the time to wait you can't beat the deals.
