In reality, we have 32 survivors bluffing and powering their way towards poker’s Holy Grail, the $5,000,000 first prize that comes from winning this tournament and the god-only-knows how many other valuable rights that a cleverer marketer with a creative agent can use to turn the seemingly relatively small difference between that five million and the $3,500,000 awarded for second into a far, far wider gulf. If the winner “plays his cards right,” so to speak, and has the right face, personality, and business handlers, the ancillary benefits and marketing opportunities for the winner might be worth 20 million or more in this poker-mad environment.
I look amongst the 32 survivors and think what winning the title might be worth $40 million to Chris “JESUS” Ferguson, $30 million to Dan Harrington, and as little as, say, $5,700,000 to some of the less charismatic, less crafty, less marketable (and dare I say it, “less interested in money”) characters remaining.
