I have taken the bus almost every time I have been to Vegas and it’s very safe.

You see lots of "colorful" people on the bus (my advice get up and ride the bus at 6:00 - 7:00 a.m.).

Please note, it is SLOWER than taking a cab but about 1/5 – 1/10 the price of a cab.

If you are going to take the bus many times during your stay, get a multi-pass ticket at the bus depot downtown. (It’s about a block and a half from Main Street Station)
