Actually Mike, I think you only need to ask and answer the second question and that's only if you've sold it as such.
Truth is, I more or less agree about the potential downfall of cleaning the cancellation hotstamp off a chip -- BUT ONLY because our community for some reason puts a huge deal on it. Frankly, if there are 1000 chips with a hotstamp cancellation and a couple that never had it, I can't see why those two are worth so much more. But that's not my angle on collecting and I know it is important to a lot of others. No right or wrong, just different.
I think you dodged a bullet. You won't have to resort to name calling, belittlement, slander and sticks & stones!
