I know very little about acoustics, but I love my Bose Wave CD/Radio. It is about 4 years old, so maybe not the newer ones you are refering to?

The radio sounds great, and really puts out a lot of sound for a very small compact radio. My only issue is there is no adjustment controls other than volume. No Bass or Treble controls. It just booms out, what I think is a little too heavy in the Bass end. But my favorite band is The Ramones, so what do I know about sound control!

I love my Bose, and if this one ever craps out, I'm getting another.
