Ripped from Rec.Gambling.Poker newsgroup...
Friday night I was playing in a 2-4 game waiting for a seat at a bigger
table. This guy joins the game, and tells the dealer he's never played,
but he watched a tv show about how to play (WPT maybe?), so the dealers
says if he has any questions or doesn't understand something, just ask.
Then the dealer explains the blinds, kill button, and so on.
About the
third hand after this, there is Kd Kh 10d on the board and the turn card
is 6d. There are three guys left in the pot including the newbie. When the
bet gets around to the newbie, he looks at his cards, looks at the board,
looks back at his cards, then asks the dealer "what do you call it when
you have 2 cards of one kind and 3 of another kind?" The dealer says
"that's called a full house, sir". Newbie says "is that good?" Dealer says
"yes, that's a very good hand", so newbie bets $4 and the other two guys
fold.
The dealer pushes the pot, and the newbie proudly turns over a 9s
4s. One of the guys that folded gets all pissed and says he folded a flush
because the newbie said he had a full house. Newbie says "well I do, look
there are two of these spades in my down cards and three of those diamond
cards in the middle!" And he was serious, he thought that was a full house!
