I have a ScanJet 5300C scanner. Neither the parallel nor the USB connection will make it work in conjunction with my printer. (Lexmark Z-42)

Checking the troubleshooting guide, it says the scanner is not compatable with the XP operating system. Is this true ? Will I need to buy a new scanner ?
