Leapy Lee? I hope I can remember that one for trivia?
Bread and Butter came up a few weeks ago and almost everyone got it right. The guy running live trivia was surprised. (Newbeats for anyone who cares)
In HS I helped set up a kind of "Pirate" radio station. Pretty good fun until the FCC came in and said "Shut that thing off!" 100 watts on a modified Ham transmitter. I built the coil, we ordered a crystal, and I hung the long wire antenna. Good signal, covered a good ways.
Since I played in bands it was always the DJs verses the Live Music folks. (almost sounds silly but it's true) A long time friend worked the Arlington Heights Hilton disco and did some radio on The Loop FM in Chicago. I played in assorted bands for over 40 years and "retired" to become a SCCA race worker in 1999.
The band I was with in college was a warm-up for the Turtles at a concert in Iowa. Not really fame was our band that played Milwaukee Summerfest three years in a row, on the rock stage, in the mid-70s. I got out of that group just before they made their 1st recording, which amounted to a loss of about $5,000. Lucky me...
When I moved I had to cut back my collection to the best 5,000 or so albums. I dumped almost all 45s and kept a selected few hundred 78s. Just picked up enough jazz 78s to make a good heavy storage problem and a hernia.
When I sold the Oceanside NCVs, a portion was set aside for a new Sony portable MZ-M10 MD recorder, slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes and digital stereo, it's going to be entertaining. Now waiting for the tiny stereo Mic.
