Good Morning Richard!
Just a little info I thought I would share with you if you did not know. The "Dunes" large crown you keep showing with your posts is an extremely scarce piece.
I remember when Doug Saito and Dennis Owen found them. They were partners back in those days. There was maybe 30 or 40 pieces with close to half showing heavy signs of wear with the hot stamp gold completely worn off. If my memory serves me correctly they were "found" along with the find of the "Matty's" $5.00 and $25.00.
The chip was verified through Dennis at T.R.King as coming from the "Dunes" that was formerly located on Boulder Highway long before the Dunes on the strip was even built.
In my opinion, the chip in "great" shape with much of the gold remaining should command easily $500.00 yet those who are interested in selling can't get $200.00. Why? The answer is probably the result of three things:
1) Jerry Wall purchased all the ones that were in "fair" condition maybe 15 or 20 pieces. I assume but I don't know for sure the piece has most likely been offered on Ebay probably more "often" than it should have been. Kinda like the $100.00 Sky Harbor arrowdie. (In my opinion another destroyed chip)
2) The piece doesn't carry the appeal of an inlaid chip so potential buyers tend to shy away from it because cosmetically it doesn't "hit" them when they look at it. It's not pretty!
3) Please don't take this personal I don't mean to offend, but YOU have displayed it so often too the viewers of this chip board that even I would come to the conclusion it's as common as dirt.
Rare and scarce chips SHOULD NOT be continually displayed on this board or placed on Ebay for sale (because someone with more money than brains purchased 50% of a find). I am only referring to those chips where 30 to 40 pieces are known. Constant visual display of a chip will place it in the mind of a viewer who will begin to believe "it's not scarce, I have seen it around very often".
Again Richard I mean no harm so please don't be offended. Thanks, Jim
