That whole war was a huge mess. Fought by politicians over ideaology, with soldiers as pawns. There just was no way to win.

Terrible, terrible situation. No one won a damned thing and many lost all they had.

I missed that "war" because of my age, but to be honest I would have been sending postcards from Canada had I not been.

I'm as patriotic as any American and I'd be right there, armed and ready, if the country was ever invaded.

However, to send young men to Vietnam to die like they did was a huge mistake and once the American public saw the footage and the body bags, they wanted out.

God bless the hippies - the brought the country to a standstill and drew attention to the war. Nixon captured the Oval Office due in part to his pledge to remove US troops from Vietnam.
