I've been meaning to make a post like this myself for some time. Photographing chips seems pretty hard unless you know what you're doing. The only advice I can give is to try your camera's macro mode, and that I think zooming is ok as long as its optical. On my camera at least, the digital zoom can make things a little less sharp. Other than that, I need some tips as well...
