When I have an auction or something for sale, the buyer gets faster service and I get a convenient, secure payment without driving checks and money orders to the bank.

Also some people do pay extra for money orders, some checking accounts do charge for each check written, then it's 37c to mail them. In all it is an advantage to buyers and small fee for a seller to do business.
