Jackpot is a great idea - it just doesn't have the functionality of eBay, or the buyers who will buy chips priced above $20.
Closed items drop from the watch list and the time it takes to find what it sold for is way too much. The CGI script they run bumps and grinds like a dance hall girl. It takes too much effort and the logic behind the programming needs to be reviewed. There are more, but anyone who has used them can list the things they's like to see done differently.
I've already told the web designers that a URL should never have a user name and password in it (pretty obvious I would think). Anyone looking over your shoulder can see it right there - poor, poor security. YOUR name and password right in plain view? What could be less secure?
I printed out my watch page the other day and lo and behold my username and password are printed as well at the bottom of the page!!!! Very, very bad indeed. I called their attention to this months ago and they said they'd look into it, whic is designer-speak for "we ain't doing it."
Last - I notice a big eBay seller listed a few things there a while back (Bill Akeman). I bought a MGM Betty Boop $5 chip for $16.50 shipped and a MGM Grand opening for $11.50 shipped.
I also got an MGM $5 Chip, TCR #N1095 for $16 from a different seller.
Now you all know the first two chips I mentioned are deals, but the last one is a $75 TCR value chips for $16!!!!!!!!!! HELLO!!!!
Bottom line - I am not a fan of eBay and their climbing fees; however I listed a nice Dunes TCR # N1506 and it brought $266.07 on eBay. Could I have gotten that on JPA? No way because the market there is geared towards lower end chips.
The JPA buyers are in the cheaper market - they wouldn't buy that chip at $150 and as a seller you'd be nuts to list it there.
I put some higher end stuff out on JPA and a few sold, but I bet I could have done better on eBay with the same chips.
Until it's easier to use (sorry to say - more like eBay) and garners better traffic and less parsimonious buyers it will forever remain the low end chip market site.
What's the largest sale on JPA? We all saw a chip go for 33K on eBay last week - think it would have done as well on JPA? Well maybe that is the exception, but I will bet that two chips of the same type on a 10 day auction, eBay will beat JPA every time.
Even if you take into account the fees, you would still make more selling on eBay, which is why the bigger sellers (Les and Bill - the top 2 IMO) are at eBay and not JPA.
I'd love to see JPA thrive and overtake eBay to become THE chips buying site. I think it can be done, but it will take 2 years if they implement a plan. Trouble is they aren't going after that market and so they will remain where they are. No plan, no progress - they are standing still IMO.
