With the passing of yet another fellow chipper and a very dear friend to many, it made me reflect on this great hobby of ours.
In the past year I have read post after post of needless bickering on this bulletin board. Most of these cat fights were over something
so miniscule one can hardly remember why they started. I started collecting chips for one reason, the chips. However I remain a chipper for a completely different reason, the people. Yes, finding a really great chip still really excites me but it has become much more than that to me.
The people I have met over the years have become good friends to me and some of them I would even consider to be my extended family. I have been a collector all my life. I have collected thru the years, Stamps, Coins, Baseball Cards, Record Albums, and many many other things. While collecting all these other things I never ran into the same group of people as I do with Chippers. What other hobby can you think of where someone is wronged and dozens of fellow chippers will come to the rescue. How many times have we sent and received chips on just a word or a handshake with no more than a promise to make good somewhere down the line. How many fellow chippers have sent you something they know you collect…… just because?. I tell you folks, you wont find this kind of generosity and friendship in other hobbies.
It disturbs me greatly when I see a post saying something to the effect of "Why did I join this club in the first place". To me there is no question.
It’s the people that make this club great and I personally wanted to say thank you to all I have dealt with in the past as well as look forward to forming many new relationships in the future. This is our club and I for one am Darn proud to be a member.
