The author's Father, Jimmy James, was born in 1900 and learned to cheat as a way to get ahead and as a way to escape the family farm. He went on to become a Grifter, Gambler and Con-man.
Among the stories told in this book is the one about the Chief of Police of Jeffersonville Indiana approaching Jimmy to open a gambling house in 1932, the Municipal Bar. It also tells why the Municipal was closed after the machine gun incident at Walter's Place in 1937.
When Jimmy James, Sr. was diagnosed with cancer in 1976, he recorded 20 hours of tape about his life as a gambler. The son has transcribed these stories and published then in soft cover.
