I side with most including Mike Poole and others.
I collect because the items give me pleasure. I look at them, hold them, and wonder what was the path they followed to end up in my collection. I envision searing hot drives out of Nevada...a stolen ashtray, a kept chip, a handful of matchbooks...And so they are preserved for us to enjoy and be proud of today.
They made their way to dresser drawers, cigar boxes filled with other doo-dads, and to this day they are still languishing out there. It is the thrill of the hunt to find them.
If a hoard comes out, well, that is the risk we take when we collect. They are still very special items, nothing can change that. The price may go down but their heritage and history does not fluctuate.
