Now for more serious matters. A neighbor of mine claims this, from his father, is a genuine uncashed winning $2 ticket from Secretariat's final Belmont victory in the Triple Crown in 1973. Pictures below. Plan to put it on eBay. The guy tells me, and it makes sense, that his Dad figured the ticket would be worth more as a collectible: Secretariat being such a big favorite, what could the pay-off have been on the ticket -- $3? Does it look real? Are these things worth much? Rare? Was it the 8th race of the day that Sec. ran? Where does it indicate the bet was on Sec.?
I checked the web and eBay, but didn't find much; for example, I found a reproduction of the Triple Crown tickets framed with a picture of Sec. I emailed the reproduction-guy to compare pictures (I couldn't see any detail on the tickets -- small picture). I'll keep you posted (ha, race lingo) on developments. This is like out of Damon Runyan -- the seller on eBay is called "racystacey."
thanks,
Robert
