I have been playing poker for at least 50 years, albeit only the past few involving tournament play. I rarely remember past hands but this one I think will stay with me forever.
It happened this morning in a small 73 player tournament. It was at the final table and fortunately my hand was not good enough for me to get involved, so I just was another observed.
Here is how the play went:
Three players went all in---one holding Pocket A-A, one holding pocket 2-2, and the third holding pocket 6-6's
The flop came 3, 4, and 5 of hearts.
The turn turned the A of hearts giving the 3 Aces the lead and the one card draw for the A high flush.
The river card was the 6 of hearts giving the player with the pocket duces a straight, the player with the pocket sixes the flush and of course giving the player with the trip Aces, the ace high flush.
As with all tournament rules the hands were flip over before the flop and just as the player with the pocket duces was ready to take off, it finally came to the attention of the whole table that one of the duces was a heart--giving him the straight flush for the win.
After rereading this, it may not sound as exciting as it actually was by being there, but this is by far the one I will probably remember.
