Other than the 1/2 million dollars expense what obstacles could there possibly be?

I do not beleive the jeopardy towards the 501 (C)3 status is an issue here. There are any number of not-for-profit entitities acrross the USA, to whit; museum stores outside of the museums, etc., where they can maintain their IRS status and receive revenue.
