Chuck - BJ at Yavapai now. Full review of changes below:
Chuck already knows most of this, but since people always ask, so here's a little FYI about the Prescott casinos.
There are 2 casinos in Prescott-area. They are right across the street from each other on HWY 69, between Prescott Valley and Prescott.
Bucky's is the newer casino (1996?)- it is on top of a hill and also houses a resort and conference center. (much nicer of the two places). Bucky's has slots and poker (not black-jack... Texas Holdem and tournaments.) Bucky's was the only one to have cards until a few months ago. Locals simply call it "the big one" or "up the hill". (If you say, "I'm going gambling." or I won $300 as the casino last night." A local will verify with, "Where at? The big one or little one?" or "Did you go up the hill?"
Yavapai Casino is known as "the little one", "Mario's" or "the bottom one". Until last year, they only had slots and Bingo. A few years ago, they moved Keno "below". (from Bucky's to Yavapai.) Yavapai never had chips - just $1 tokens shared by both casinos.
To everyone's surprise, Yavapai got the Black Jack tables. I can only assume it was to breath life into the reputation of always being "2nd to Bucky's". They also added a purty-darn good snack bar (good sandwiches and waffle fries!), a sports bar, and they have a limited alcohol menu (no booze there at all at one time). They still have slots (non-smoking slots too), Bingo, Keno... and Black Jack ($2- $5 min. usually - max's $200- $500) No high rollers section... everyone plays with who-ever you sit with... pro or rookie.)
Like many small AZ casinos - they are confused and paranoid about letting slot-cards, keys or chips leave the casino. They are sure you plan to commit some kind of fraud - and when I laid $40 down to buy chips (I knew THAT was pushing it)... they stammered and asked, "You want that many?????????????" Clamly I replied, "No, I want a couple hundred dollars worth, but I'd be happy with this - if I can - for right now. It took 4 floor supervisors to approve my purchase...
It'll take a few months for them to lighten up. (and finding the right supervisor to help me get chips... but it's NOT the lady with the beehive hair-do I dealt with the other night
