Unfortunately this trend is all too common with many companies nowadays: in my work I get to see many banks, particularly credit card institutions. Such biggies as American Express and GE Capital (underwrites lots of 'in store' credit cards) all have (or are moving) their customer support to India.
For the companies it makes sense: for about $7.50 an hour you (no joke) get a Phd in Mathematics or some other advanced degree that is willing to work odd hours of the night to be available during the U.S. 'customer support' hours. Don't have to pay a lot of benefits, not a lot of worker protection.
For the country, I don't think it's the greatest trend, esp. (in my area of work) where consumer financial privacy is concerned. But, if we don't vote with our dollars, no one will hear us.
