It was planned in that General Dynamics designed the F-16 with an ejection seat for when things go really, really bad, which was what was happening in this incredible picture. What looks like an explosion is actually the exhaust from the rocket motor on the ejection seat.

The plane was around one second away from augering into the ground and the pilot thought that maybe he ought to punch out of it before then if he wanted to live. It was the USAF Thunderbird F-16 that crashed last Fall at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho during an air show.

The authors of the CR will have to answer the question about cost and where you can purchase it at. But I would imagine that someone will be offering it right here on the Chipboard when it is available.
