It was suggested to me that the End of Item - Not Won email that I received was for the original auction that I lost. It only looked to be from the Second Chance deadline.

I looked it up and sure enough, that is what happened. Thanks to Jack for suggesting this and thanks also to several people who were sympathetic and concerned. But it appears that all is well.
