I agree with many of those that posted above that the cost of shipping is taken into account when bidding on stuff (and yours are NOT too high -- in my opinion). Many times, I've been able to get chips because people have backed off due to higher shipping charges yet the over-all price (including S&H) works within my budget. Do I care if you charge me two bucks and then send me the item in a reused mailer...not at all!! I choose not to reuse them when I sell on eBay 'cuz I usually open these mailers like I opened Christmas presents when I was five -- rip 'n tear.
Many, including myself, don't like the part about using the shipping fees to recover eBay & PayPal costs..."Just raise the opening bid price to recover these fees" some say. The problem there is that as people scan the items for sale, they look at the description and current price. A chip with a $5 current bid and $3 S&H will probably get more action and will, in many instances, have a final closing price higher than the same chip starting at $6.50 and $1.50 S&H. The one thing that does really irritate me though, is when I pay for insurance & the seller sends the package without it. Do I ask for my money back...no, because to me, it was the sender's risk...the sender gambled and won. But the chip has always arrived...what would happen if it didn't arrive or was broken...who knows?!?
This is just one of those subjects that neither side seems to agree fully on... Steve B
