I'm sure that this subject has been kicked around the board for a long time. But, here's my 2 cents worth anyway. Fees (eBay and PayPal) are part of the "cost of doing business." I think it’s referred to as gross profit versus net profit. Shipping charges should be just that, the cost of delivering the product(s) to the buyer.
Before all the sellers jump down my throat, think about the following situations.
If I buy more than 1 chip, why should I pay multiple shipping charges? It seldom costs the seller anything extra to mail 2 or 3 chips, but invariably, there is an additional charge per item. I have even had sellers apply the full charge for additional items. I realize there are times when the seller does incur more cost, and in that case, additional charges are acceptable, to the extent of the actual cost.
If I pay by cash, check, or money order, thereby avoiding any PayPal fees, does the seller offer a discount? I think not.
Buyers also have fees, such as, cost of money orders, stamps, envelopes, and yes, sometimes gasoline. But, I’m sure that sellers don’t want to hear about that.
The bottom line is that the seller can charge whatever they want to ship, but don’t bring the fees into the picture. This isn’t a one-way street.
