My research strongly suggested that while any safe was good for storing chips, the additional cost of a fireproof one wasn't justifiable becasue of the internal temp (in a fire) would be high enough to melt the chips.

Paper burns at 451 (as we know) but chips can't survive that heat. Safes that are fireproof aren't useful for chips in the event of a fire.

I have a safe but did't spring for the fireproof model.
