A couple of weeks ago I posted about a couple of encased pennies from Kentucky.

Now that they have been added to my collection I thought I’d post a scan. The New Frontier cent is dated 1957. The names on the collar are: Mel Fernberg & Ray Kuhn. The Frontier cent is dated 1956. Due to the address listed on each encased I assume these are from the same place. These aren’t listed in Jeff Laudeman’s book, “Newport: The Real Sin City”, but I did note several other joints in the neighborhood within the time frame of the dates on the encased: Stork Club, Silver Slipper, Stardust, Mecca Club, Glenn Rendezvous, Tropicana, Kid Able Club, & Monmouth Cigar.
The other encased is in my collection as a “possible” gambling related piece. I categorized it on the name alone. Sure sounds like an illegal joint. (Although, with my luck, it will turn out to be a club for life insurance agents with 25 years on the job. ) If anyone has any information on Joe Smith’s 25 Club I would appreciate hearing from you.
I collect encased pennies and other coins from Nevada Casinos, California Card Rooms, Carnivals, Bowling Alleys, Bars & Taverns from the Pacific Northwest… in short any encased coin with any connection to gambling. I’ll buy them or even… trade chips for them!
This die-cut (Crest & Seal?) chip is probably from San Francisco. I have an extra on if anyone is interested. Thanks for looking.
