$8.70 does seem high. But the lesson here is make sure you know what seller is going to charge for shipping PRIOR to bidding on an auction or buying a chip via other means. Then if the shipping seems excessive, you can choose to not purchase it.

Another thing to look at is if after taking the sellers price and the shipping fee into account, if I am getting a really killer deal on a chip, I don't mind paying a little more for shipping.

And finally, I take into account "How bad do I want the chip???"
