I made the mistake of buying a case of 100 (along with my business shippers) of #000 jet-paks. They are just fine and the chips are protected and they aren't expensive... BUT
They weigh an ounce by themself. That means I pay 23 cents more each time I ship.
The bubble mailers weigh about 1/2oz so with one chip, will go for first class rate 1oz.
I'm still not sure about the mail regulations, whether I need to put the extra 12c on bubble mailers 49c total or whether they can go for 37c?
Also I'm still trying to find 49c stamps or 12c stamps from the post office. I have found 50c stamps, but gee, that's an extra penny per shipment. (am I cheap or what?)
Two oz goes for 72c so do I use a 70c and a 2c or a 37+23+ the hard to get 12c. 37+35, but there aren't 35c stamps.
If they made an envelope shaped bubble mailer, would it go for the standard First Class rate, without the surcharge? I'm still working on this one.
Yes, protect the chip inside the bubble mailer, wrap it inside the packing list, is an easy way to go. Ever get a chip with nothing else and wonder where it came from?
Here's the fine print on 12c surcharge, that may apply to shipping a chip.
A. Square
B. Over 6 1/8 H or 11 1/2 L
C. under 1.3 ratio, over 2.5 ratio (7 x 5 bubble mailer is 1.4)
D. Clasps, strings, buttons closure devices
E. it is too rigid... thickness of the piece to be uneven.
F. Address parallel to the shorter dimension (there's a tricky one I never thought of)
It seems to me that a 5x7 bubble mailer would be able to go out for 37 cents?
