Do you realize how many chips you are talking about? I've done work for roughly 35-40 people.
Most have been multiples. Sometimes they've given me as many as 20-25 at a time. One guy gave me a few hundred in a shoe box. I still have some of his in my shop. The total has to be several hundred or maybe over a thousand chips. I can't remember all of the individual chips. A few of the good ones stand out in my mind.
In the future I might start scanning the chips and keeping records.
I've never charged a fee. I let them compensate me as they see fit. The most I've ever been paid is $40.00. Many of the dealers give me a chip and tell me they don't want to see it on eBay. What do I do if I already have one in my inventory that I had intended to sell? On a couple of occasions I've been given a very valuable chip (worth a couple hundred dollars in the book) for 10-12 hours of work. I think, "How generous". Later I find out the chips have "came out" and are now worth $10-$15. That's right, about a buck an hour. That's still better than the 20 some cents an hour I averaged for most of my military career.
By far the biggest reward is the satisfaction of taking a piece of junk and making it into something nice.
