Had something to do with the premium on silver dollars in the mid 1960's, Chuck. I believe some clubs continued to use silver dollars even after the silver content made them worth more than $1.00. They would redeem stickered dollars from their own machines for over face, but didn't want to pay a premium for dollars you got at another club (or at the bank?). Frankly, I don't remember this practice, but I was shown several at a recent show with different club's paper stickers on them, and that was the story the dealer told.
I don't think they ever served as snappers at the 21 tables!
