Favorite chip of all time?

What's your Fav chip of all time?

Most of you know me from my past posts as that guy who has the thing for the Pussycat a' Go-Go. In reality, the 1st chip I really fell in love with was the Bal Tabarin. It was so 50s/60s! The chip design reminded me of cocktail lounges at some of the hotels and bars I went to with my parents. (Yes, back in the late 50s and early 60s, kids were allowed into the bars and lounges, and could even order drinks. Ok, so it was soda or Roy Rodgers/Shirley Temple's, but you felt like a big guy/girl!)

This was my 1st, non-Las Vegas chip, and my 1st Tahoe chip! I bought it from, I believe, Josh Shore.

The Bal Tabarin started out as The La-Vada Lodge, a speakeasy that had gambling on the North End of Lake Tahoe at Crystal Bay in 1927. The establishment changed it's name to the Cal-Vada Lodge in 1931 when it received it's gambling license. Joby Lewis purchased the Cal-Veda in 1955 and sold it in 1956 to a group that renamed it the Bal Tabarin, after the famous San Francisco night club. Lincoln Fitzgerald bought both the Bal Tabarin and the Tahoe Biltmore in 1959. Fitzgerald closed the Bal Tabarin in 1960 when caught employees stealing.

There are only 2, 1st edition, variants of this classy 50s chip:

Bal Tabarin, Lake Tahoe, 1955-1960*

$1.00, Black, Sm-key, 3red, R-pink, R-3
$1.00, Black, sm-key, 3red, R-salmon, R-4
